Finding THE Dress

Finding your wedding dress is high priority when it comes to wedding planning. Many of you have daydreamed for years what your dress would look like! Now that these dreams are turning into a reality, there are a lot of things to consider when picking out THE perfect dress! We turned to our friends at Bliss Bridal in Hamburg, NY to get some insight to help get your started.

Many people ask, “When should I start shopping for my dress?”. Jessie, from Bliss Bridal says, “We recommend starting the wedding gown journey about a year before the wedding, if possible. This allows the bride enough time to order her gown and have alterations completed without any stress of a time crunch.” Jessie goes on to say, “When shopping for your wedding gown remember less is more when planning who will be joining you in your bridal appointments. Have a clear idea of your wedding gown budget, do some research on the designers you like so you have an awareness of the approximate cost. Be clear about your budget with your consultant, this eliminates any issues or stress about falling in love with a gown out of your price range. Pinterest is a blessing and a curse, so keep an open mind when trying on gowns. You never know what you will fall in love with and more often than not it can be quite a different gown than you imagined or pinned. Go with your gut, when you know you know. Once you choose your dress STOP looking.”

The shape of your body is also a major factor in selecting THE dress. There are several style guides online to help explain which styles work best with certain body types. Be sure to check some of those out before going to your bridal appointment.

We asked Bliss Bridal, who should come to a bridal appointment. Jessie commented, “You should only bring those closest to you to your bridal appointments. Keep in mind, are you someone who has a hard time making up your mind? Do you need others opinions or will that sway you from choosing the gown you love? Consider how this shopping experience will be enjoyable and stress free. Oftentimes we have brides come in with one or two people, some choose more, it’s really about what works for the bride. If you have questions about the appointment, who or what to bring etc. call the stores your visiting and ask questions. Bridal stores are always willing to offer any advice or answer any questions you may have prior to your appointment.”
